Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is one of the most sought-after facial rejuvenation procedures owing to its remarkable visual impact and relatively swift recovery. It removes excess skin, fat and muscle from both the upper and lower eyelids, correcting the tired appearance, puffiness and deep under-eye shadows that many patients carry even after a full night’s sleep.
Beyond the aesthetic dimension, blepharoplasty also has a functional benefit: in cases with significant excess skin on the upper eyelid, this can obstruct the upper visual field, affecting driving or reading. Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper eyelids only, the lower eyelids only, or on all four at once. The choice depends on the area of concern, the degree of ptosis and each patient’s aesthetic goals.
Upper Blepharoplasty
Correction of excess skin and fat on the upper eyelids. The incision is made in the natural eyelid fold so that the scar remains completely hidden. Indicated when the weight of excess skin creates a tired or heavy appearance, or reduces the visual field.
Upper eyelidsLower Blepharoplasty
Removes fat bags and excess skin beneath the eyes. Can be performed via a subciliary incision (just below the lashes) or transconjunctivally — with no external scar — when there is no significant skin excess and only fat removal is required.
Lower eyelidsFull Blepharoplasty
Treatment of all four eyelids in a single surgical session. The most common option when excess tissue is present in both the upper and lower areas, delivering a balanced, harmonious rejuvenation across the entire periorbital region in one recovery.

The procedure

Blepharoplasty is performed in the operating room under local anaesthesia with sedation or general anaesthesia. Incisions are carefully planned along the natural expression lines: in the upper eyelid fold and just below the lashes on the lower eyelid. Through them, Dr. Vricella precisely removes excess skin, fat and muscle, then closes with very fine sutures that leave a minimal scar, virtually imperceptible over time.
- Duration: 45 min (one pair of eyelids) to 1.5 h (all four)
